Acceptable Use Policy

Servers rented from Refuge Game Hosting may not be used for any of the following. Violations may result in immediate suspension without refund.

Not allowed

  • Illegal content or activity. Anything that violates US federal or Oregon state law, or the laws of the country you reside in. This includes (but isn't limited to) CSAM, terror content, fraud, doxxing, stalking, harassment, illegal drug sales.
  • Attacking other systems. Don't use a rented server to mount DDoS attacks, port scans, brute force, credential stuffing, exploit development against third parties, or to host malware C2.
  • Resource abuse. Crypto mining, distributed compute farms, video-encoding farms, anything that isn't actually running a game server. We notice; we charge for game-server capacity, not general compute.
  • Bypassing game-publisher terms. If a game publisher prohibits commercial dedicated server hosting (e.g. some Steamworks titles), don't rent our service to operate one. You are responsible for confirming upstream terms.
  • Hate speech, threats, doxxing. Servers used to organise harassment campaigns or to host hateful content targeting protected groups will be removed.
  • Spam. Don't use server-side mail relays for unsolicited bulk messaging.
  • Evading bans. If we suspend your account, don't sign up again with a different Steam account to keep going.

What we do about it

We don't proactively monitor your server's content. We do respond when:

  • We receive a credible abuse report (DMCA, law-enforcement request, user complaint with evidence).
  • Our infrastructure provider tells us a server is generating outbound abuse traffic.
  • Routine operational logs surface signs of resource abuse.

Our response is proportional — usually we'll contact you first and give you a chance to remediate. For severe or repeat violations we'll suspend immediately. Egregious violations (CSAM, active attacks) will be referred to law enforcement.

If you believe a server on our service is being misused, email support@refugegaming.org with as much detail as possible. For copyright takedowns include the elements required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) (your contact info, identification of the work, the URL/server affected, a statement of good-faith belief, a statement of accuracy under penalty of perjury, and your signature).
